Well, another year of college football has come and gone. Alabama returned to football glory after a 17-year hiatus. The S.E.C. established its dominance once again, and we saw the end of an era with the exit of Bobby Bowden at Florida State. Now, we move on to another decade of what promises to be full of excitement, controversy, and the everlasting argument of whether there should be a playoff or not.
How does college football live without Tim Tebow, who is arguably the greatest college football player of all time? It will just have to. Sure, there may not be another player with his character, determination, and impact, but, there will be great players and future stars. I think Tebow’s impact on college football is probably one of the greatest things to ever happen to the sport. His effect will last for a very long time. There, that’s my homage to Tim Tebow.
The Auburn Tigers are finally back. All you Gene Chizik haters can stick a big ‘ol piece of humble pie in that mouth of yours…I know I did. I was a fan of Turner Gill-and I’m glad he’s getting his shot at Kansas-but regardless of who you were pulling for, you have to admit that Chizik and his staff that consists of guys name Trooper and Luper, is putting Auburn back-scratch that has already put Auburn back on the map. People said Auburn couldn’t recruit top-tier talent anymore. Well, Auburn is on its way to the number one recruiting class this year. Exit Ben Tate and Chris Todd. Enter Michael Dyer and Cam Newton. ‘Nuff said.
Boise State made a case for mid-majors competing for the National Championship, but was foiled yet again by two higher ranked powerhouses. If Boise State can go undefeated next year, they deserve to be in the title game. They have a tough schedule and should start the season highly ranked, most likely in the top 10.
But enough about this past year. You’re probably asking, “Well who do you think will be in the national championship game next year?” Well, I’m not going to buy in to Alabama repeating. Everyone is saying that they are returning most of their starters next year. Well, remember Florida? They returned just about everybody and look what happened this past year. History repeats itself. The S.E.C. west is going to beat up on itself. Everyone will be gunning for Alabama. If there are two teams that can make it through the season undefeated that are not in the S.E.C. and there are no undefeateds in the S.E.C., then we will see a new champion.
My Prediction:
Ohio State vs. Boise State
(If and only if Boise can make it through that schedule. They play Oregon State and Virginia Tech. If they make it through that, they deserve to be in the BCS title game.)
Ohio State wins and gets Jim Tressel some much deserved respect.
