Kentucky Post Game Thoughts

Auburn certainly has some reorganizing and re-evaluating to do to prepare for its game against L.S.U. After the tigers were defeated by Kentucky 21-14, that's a given, right? These are just a few thoughts on where they need to improve.

Offense:

Chris Todd needs to get his swagger back after almost reverting to his 2008 version. Even though he only threw his second interception of the season against Kentucky, Todd constantly threw into multiple-man coverage. He also did a poor job of checking off receivers to find other options. There were many times where Auburn players were wide open, but Todd decided to stick to his first choice.

Let's face it, Gustav did not call his best game last night. It may have been just me, but Auburn ran way too many plays that went east to west. That didn't work very much, yet he insisted on calling those plays. Also, the trick play with Todd lining up at center may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but there is a reason Ryan Pugh wears the number 50 and Todd wears the number 12.

Penalties were a huge reason the tigers lost. Kentucky had zero. You can't have 10 penalties for 76 yards and expect to win in the SEC. It's not possible.

Defense:

Auburn's defense looked OK for the first three quarters, but it ran out of gas in the fourth. It showed when Randall Cobb ran for a 61 yard gain to set up a Kentucky score. I hate to say it, but Ted Roof may be feeling some pressure to make his defense play better.

Some Positives:

Ben Tate showed once again why he is one of the leading rushers in the SEC. He was stellar with 132 yards on 31 carries with a touchdown.

The Special Teams helped Auburn gain the first points of the game with a blocked field goal returned by Neiko Thorpe for a touchdown.

Auburn better figure out what's wrong before they head into a deathly hostile environment in Baton Rouge when they take on the L.S.U. Tigers on Saturday.
